'Botanical & Mixed Media Blends'
Being surrounded by a wealth of colour in the Forest of Dean, it’s no wonder I work on an ever-changing canvas.
Encaustic Wax:
Inviting conversations with bees wax, resin and nature, to create mini landscape bud vases, nature inspired wall art and treasured mementos, using coloured wax, oil paints and 'fire'. The word 'Encaustic' means to ‘burn in', which I do, using a heat gun to manipulate the wax to my desired effect. It allows me to create movement, rugged textures and play with the lights and darks; a reflection of how I see my surroundings. Wax is also associated as a 16th Wedding Anniversary, so sealing an anniversary poem or a love quote in wax, allows me to become personally and emotionally involved. These mementos, including heartfelt quotes and emotions, are captured, sealed, and are only unveiled when there is a desire to do so, making them unique gifts. These waxed expressions become your very own personal ‘message in a bottle’.
Cyanotypes & Mixed Media Art:
Cyanotype is another old master. It is an alternative photography process, developed in 1842. Flowers and foliage are used to capture natures finest details with the aid of the sun and particular chemicals. My ‘FREE’ guide to botanical printing is available through my linktr.ee below and I also sell Cyanotype Craft Kits, enabling you to enjoy the process. My botanical designs are used to create elegant jewellery and wall art, sometimes enhancing them in wax. My creative mixed media art is expressed in many forms, with the use of recycled ephemera and tea bags, botanical mono printing, art journaling and textural wax paintings - all of which is a way to express myself.
As you can see, all of my practice’s involve nature, and the blending of botanical forms, either complementing them with wax and paints, or expressing them in some form of tactile art.
